Hero's Journey

Good morning Lord Jesus, with all that I am and all that I have I seek youths morning.

“And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.” (Mark 1:19-20)

The Bible does not contain the dates James and John, Peter, or any of the Apostles were “saved.”   It does contain the day they became his disciples and began their  “Hero’s journey”, a journey of following Jesus.  Discipleship is a journey.  And central to this discipleship journey is following Jesus and hearing from the Father.   As I stated in my previous post Jesus’ whole journey with his disciples was to mentor them into forming a relationship with the Father in which they heard his voice. “And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 16:17)

You are on a “Hero’s Journey.”  It is the journey of your life.  And Central to your journey needs to be your relationship with God.  What is central is not the church you attend now, or your present small group you are in. Though these may be a great source of help to you presently in deepening your relationship with God and where your journey is located now, your journey will continue on after your season with there is over.  And your participation in them though important, is not the destination where your “Hero’s Journey” with God is leading you to go. They are stops along the way for encouragement to continue on your journey in life. If you take these things like church, small group attendance and Bible studies out of the central place and simply look at your life’s “Hero’s Journey”, your journey and adventure with God,  your relationship with God, what do you see? Where are you going?

Please take 10 minutes to watch this Ted Talk video on “What is the Hero’s Journey.”

My family, When you finish watching the video, say a prayer for honest revelation from the Holy Spirit and then reflect on your Hero’s journey with Jesus. Where are you on your journey?   Have you answered your call?  Are you doing what make’s you happy?  Have you entered the unknown? Have your returned and are you sharing the experience of your journey with your neighbors? In Jesus’ name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you my friends!

Please post and share your thoughts, reflections, questions, or prayers with us in the comment box below.
